Getting Here



From Highway 101 take the exit to Route 217.  The distance from the Town of Digby to the Long Island Ferry is 45 kilometers (28 miles) The distance to the Brier Island Ferry is another 18 kilometers (11 Miles). It takes approximately 1.5 hours to go from Digby to Brier Island including ferry times.

Both ferries run every hour, 24 hours a day (on call after midnight) and cost $5.00 cash per car payable when coming here (free when leaving).

During busy summer days, overflows will occur, requiring the ferries to constantly run back and forth, with little chance of a prolonged wait.




The Journey Here

Leave Digby at around half past the hour.
Drive from Digby to East Ferry (45 minutes).
Catch the ferry from East Ferry to Tiverton at half past the hour (5 minutes).
Drive from Tiverton to Freeport (15 minutes).
Catch the ferry from Freeport to Brier Island at the top of the hour (7 minutes).

For example if you left Digby at 1:30pm you would catch the first ferry at 2:30pm, the second at 3:00pm and arrive on Brier Island at 3:07pm.

Ferry Schedules

East Ferry to Tiverton: every hour at half past the hour (:30).
Tiverton to East Ferry: every hour at the top of the hour (:00).

Freeport to Brier Island: every hour at the top of the hour (:00).
Brier Island to Freeport: every hour at 25 minutes past the hour (:25).

international airport is located just outside the capital city of Halifax.  There is also an airport located in Yarmouth which provides service through Starlink Aviation to Halifax and Portland Maine
.

Ferry
Several ferry services operate in Nova Scotia
and New Brunswick (Saint John), Prince Edward Island (Wood Islands) and Newfoundland (Port Aux Basques and Argentia).
 

  • Digby is the terminal for the car ferry from Saint John, New Brunswick. Buses depart daily to Halifax.Caribou/Pictou is the terminal for ferries which arrive daily from Wood Islands, Prince Edward Island, between May 1 and mid-December. Highway 106 leads from the ferry terminal to the Pictou Rotary and the Northumberland Shore.
  • North Sydney is the terminal of the ferry service from Port-aux-Basques and Argentia, Newfoundland. North Sydney is at the eastern end of Trans Canada Highway 105.
Highway
Nova Scotia is connected to mainland Canada at the New Brunswick border.  Travelling the
Trans Canada Highway east from New Brunswick will enter Nova Scotia in the Amherst area... from here it is roughly a 2.5 - 3 hour drive to the capital city of Halifax.


Visitor Information Centres


There are  Visitor Information Centres located throughout Nova Scotia, staffed by travel counsellors who will help you with travel information and literature (brochures, maps, guides, etc). There are also Nova Scotia Visitor Information Centres located in both Portland and Bar Harbor, Maine. Just f ollow the Question Mark ( ? ) signs!
